So I figure I can do like everyone else and push a Blog post for TV shows. This shouldn't be too long as the free streaming goes away January 31st. IU think that I'm spoiler safe at this time, but I'll put a break before any spoilers. We'll see if it gets any traction. I'm going to do these stream of consciousness with little editing. Consider the break your Spoiler Warning
So, when the buy in happens, when your evil mega-corp opponents attempt to stop you by co-opting you with piles of money and power, do you take it?
If you take the buy in, maybe you can change the group from within. Maybe you can channel that money to the people doing the real work. on the other hand taking the buy in means you can never be trusted. It means you are easier to surveil, your money easier to track. It puts you at risk to their memes, to their reasoning and rationalization.
If you don't take the buy in, there is the implicit threat that they will spend massive amounts of money and manpower to stop you. If they are offering the buy in, then you are clearly at a disadvantage. On the other hand, your conscience is clear and your standing is clear.
The easy way is always mined. if you are twigged to your opponents skillset, and something seems too easy, it's probably a honeypot. And no, you can never trust that hardware again, especially your phone. The question is how do you replace it with hard ware you can trust? You can't mail order it (because it can be intercepted), You could pre-buy and keep it in sealed cartons, but htat will run and age out quick. You could have a friend proxy it to you, but that adds another step of intercept and puts your friend in danger. You'd have to find a physical store, with what you want on the shelf. Even then you'll need to not use internet connections or accounts that can be asscoiated with you because those can be vectors for reinfection. And with cell phones you can never have it on in a place associated with you, like your home or workplace.
You really need 2 (or more) sets of hardware. A vanilla set that checks your Facebook and travels to work with you, and a "Hacking" set that uses scamful bridges to other ISPs and never accesses any of your accounts. the phone is the hardest to deal with, and I'll talk more about that in another post.
There is the trope about the dedicated revolutionary and the neophyte arguing about the morality of collateral damage. And the rape trope. I suppose this gives a good reason to have the main character clean up, but it seems his dealer just got put in the fridge.
Rats! RATs the size of RATS! Remote access tools. I kinda got that feeling when they said "You've been hanging around our building for a week". And more fridging of female characters.
Damn, that was cold-blooded.
Are the 2 hacking forces in his life just hallucinations? The Evil Corp CTO and Christian Slater?
After every episode I'm reminded of Year Zero by NIN. But especially this episode. "Shame on us, for all we have done, and all we ever were, just Zeroes and Ones"-Zero Sum
